Lindsey Lodge have gone above and beyond through the pandemic

Throughout the pandemic, the Inpatient Unit at Lindsey Lodge has continued to provide its round the clock specialist palliative care to patients needing symptom management, or end of life care.

The Inpatient Team have worked extremely hard to look after patients and their families receive caring, despite all of the extreme challenges being faced.

The Lindsey Lodge Wellbeing Service has seen significant changes take place during the pandemic, as the team have worked to adapt and find alternative ways to provide care to patients.

One major change has been the renovation of the Wellbeing Centre to ensure that the space is Covid safe. A full review of the environment and its patients was undertaken, and thanks to grant funding key changes were made, including new flooring and furniture to ensure infection control compliance.

Wellbeing Centre manager Sarah Hodge said: “The funding has allowed us to spend more to ensure the environment is safe, but it still has that feeling of relaxation, wellbeing and home.

“Throughout the pandemic, patients have been understandably worried about the spread of the virus. The grant funding enabled us to provide an environment that is fit for purpose, and complies with infection control standards, to reassure patients that they can visit the Wellbeing Centre safely.”

Despite the challenges Covid-19 presents, Wellbeing Centre services are accessed by a minimum of 20 people per day, through a mixture of phone calls, video calls and face to face appointments. Activity in the Wellbeing Centre has risen by 52% in just six months.

Sarah said: “We have adapted at every hurdle we’ve faced during the pandemic – whether it’s technology, communication, resources or education, to ensure that our contact with patients remains strong throughout.

“The team have shown incredible resilience as things continue to change, as we’re always willing to adapt while maintaining consistency, taking on things we wouldn’t ordinarily do. Our volunteers have also been helping when needed, giving social calls to patients.”

Unfortunately due to lockdown, at the moment Lindsey Lodge unable to accept donations for the shops, but they are watching the guidelines closely and will update their website and social media channels when in the position to accept donations again.

The first homewear store opened last year on Laneham Street, and Lindsey Lodge have really appreciate how local people have supported them by donating lovely furnishings. Please bare them in mind if you are having a makeover at home when the Lockdown finishes for donations.
