Three house fires in Lincolnshire over the weekend

Three house fires in Lincolnshire over the weekend were caused by smoking materials. Please take care to put cigarettes out fully and never smoke in bed.

One resident responded to the Tweet saying ‘When will smokers learn. It is coming up for 9 years since my Mum died in a house fire and despite numerous campaigns since that fateful night this is still happening. I hope that all householders involved & the staff of Lincs Fire and Rescue were unhurt’.

As a result, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are renewing warnings for people to take care to put cigarettes out fully and never to smoke in bed.

People are urged to check their smoke alarms in a weekly campaign called ‘Test it Tuesday’.

Another tweet today read ‘It’s not only Test It Tuesday but it’s also pancake day! Never leave cooking unattended & ensure the hob is regulary cleaned to prevent a build up of fat/grease’

It only takes a minute (or less) to test your smoke alarm, fire alarm, or carbon monoxide alarm: you simply have to press the button on the surface of the alarm for peace of mind!

Most smoke alarms and CO alarms come with a 10 year battery back-up, and it will take quite a while until these need to be changed; what is needed, though is the periodical testing of the alarm to make sure it works.

It is good to test your Carbon Monoxide alarm and Smoke alarm today, for the working alarms can save lives – and the life they could save can be your own!
