Support for young people to access employment

Young people in North Lincolnshire are set to benefit from a package of support to help them into work.

North Lincolnshire Council has links with many local businesses and access to some fantastic training and job vacancies.

This can provide young people the very best of opportunities and show that wanting to work for it can lead to a very rewarding future.

With more 18 to 24-year-olds finding themselves now unemployed due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the support couldn’t come at a better time.

Developing skills through training, assisting with finding vacancies or providing support with the application process itself are just some of the ways in which The Youth Hub at North Lincolnshire Council is enabling young people to get working.

Many young people are daunted by the prospect of trying to get into work which is why the support offered aims to be as simple and inclusive as possible.

All people need to do is simply text the word WORK to 88802, this will then put them in touch with an experienced advisor who will give them a call back.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, is excited by what this support means to the future of young people in North Lincolnshire:

“Despite the pandemic, there are many opportunities for those starting a career or wanting to progress to get a better paid job. Through providing these opportunities we are giving young people a chance to play their part in growing the economy. Just last week 2 Sisters based in Scunthorpe announced they are looking to fill 500 vacancies”.

The increase in income from getting into work is upwards of £179 each week. This is comparing an 18-24 year-old going from solely claiming benefits to earning minimum wage of at least £238.65 each week.
