From photography to sketching – he can do it all!

He’s swapped the camera to a pencil!

He’s well known for being the man behind the camera in Scunthorpe, but Calvin Taylor Lee’s skills don’t stop there, he’s swapped the camera to a pencil and blown us all away!

Calvin told GI ‘ from 1995 to 1998 I was an in house graphic designer in Kuala Lumpur and it went from there. Then in 2006 I moved to the UK and started selling my artwork’.

‘I only set up a Facebook paged called Pencil Sketch by Calvin just over a week ago and already I’ve been inundated with requests from local residents and beyond!’

On the page you can witness a time-lapse of Calvin progressing with each detailed piece of artwork.

‘It takes me roughly less than 1 hour to complete a single sketch and if it’s a big group of over 6 people I can complete this in a maximum of 2 hours. If I make a mistake on a big sketch I want to cry and start again!’ Calvin jokes.

So far there have been lots of sketch requests for surprise birthday gifts as well as family portraits, animals and memories of passed loved ones.

A lady from Preston asked Calvin to draw her sister as a nurse with angel wings

One review on the Facebook page quoted ‘I love the sketch. I can’t wait to see my mum’s face on her birthday. Thank you so much’

It’s great to see Calvin has adapted his working lifestyle to spread some positivity and warmth amongst people nationwide during these uncertain times. Who knows what’s going to be next for this talented Scunthorpe man!

In loving memory of Isa Doherty

Calvin recently completed this sketch of Isa Doherty who sadly passed away from Covid. We would like to thank her family for allowing us to share this beautiful keepsake. Calvin said he felt ’emotional’ to be asked to work on this sentimental piece of art.
