Flood warnings for Northern Lincolnshire

Amber alerts have been given by the Government’s Flood Information Service in North Cotes, Market Rasen, Brigg, and their surrounding areas.

River Don

The service warns ‘flooding is possible – be prepared’ in multiple North Lincolnshire areas.

The amber alerts cover Louth Canal and Waithe Beck, Lower River Ancholme and Rase and Upper Ancholme.

The website states: “River Ancholme is now rising, which will lead to flooding of low lying land and roads close to the river from now Friday 15th January onwards.”

“River levels will rise with the next high tides around 11:00 and 23:00 today, 15/01/21.”

“The river Lud in Louth will remain at a constant high level whilst the Flood Storage Reservoirs are in operation. There will be some expected flooding of low lying land.”

Residents have been warned “flooding on low lying land and roads close to the rivers” is likely, whereas flooding to properties is unlikely.

Warnings to avoid using low lying footpaths near the river while the warnings are in place.

Heavier rain is expected next week whilst light showers and a band of ‘heavy snow’ are expected to continue over the weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert in Caistor, Market Rasen, Brigg and Scunthorpe between 3am and 9pm on Saturday.
Experts are predicting “heavy snow which may lead to travel disruption” and ice to cover roads.
The snow fall is due to be between 5 and 10 cm, higher parts in the region may be up to 20 cm.

Travel disruptions are expected over next week on roads, rail service and bus routes.
