By Locals rejoice as Tollbar roundabout works on schedule to finish in early 2021
After years of controversial debate, major improvement works at Tollbar roundabout are on schedule to finish early in 2021.
The six month project is nearing the end, with traffic management reportedly only required in the new year to allow for final finishing of the splitter islands, resurfacing and new lining to be set out.
The ongoing work in the area was set to complete by the 18th of December, when the work shuts down for the festive period.
In the new year, the following traffic management will be put in place:
- Starting Monday, the 4th of January for up to three weeks, day-time peak hours, between 9.30am – 2.30pm: Station Road east and west closed and A16 under two-way lights to allow splitter islands to be reinstated and central island works.
- Pedestrian access to Toll Bar Academy will be maintained.
- Monday the 11th of January to Friday the 15th of January, overnight works between 7.30pm and 5.30am: two-way lights on Station Road (west) to allow footway works nearest the Toll Bar Academy entrance to be completed. Note – this closure is in addition to the day-time closure above.
- Monday the 18th of January for up to two weeks, night works between 7.30pm and 5.30am: Closure of each roundabout arm and the roundabout itself to allow for resurfacing and road markings to be reinstated.
Cllr Stewart Swinburn expressed his gratitude nearing the completion of the works.
He said:
“I would like to thank parish councillors, residents, businesses, Tollbar Academy, and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding over the course of the works”.
“I appreciate it has caused inconvenience, but am also pleased with the way the work has kept on schedule in these difficult times”.
“I welcome it entering its final stages and, like everybody else, will be pleased to see it completed early in the New Year”.
