Do you have experience in soliciting large donations from High Net Worth Individuals or working with High Net Worth clients in a private sector role? Then join Shelter as a Philanthropy Development Manager and you could soon be playing a vital role at the heart of our creative, passionate and ambitious Philanthropy team.

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We are in the middle of a national housing emergency that has collided with a public health emergency, and more people than ever are turning to Shelter for help. We need ambitious individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

Our Philanthropy team is a continuing success story. Over the last three years, we have grown our major gifts income to £2.3m, but we know there is even more potential. This growth has been achieved by significant investment in the team and the development of a range of products and propositions. Join us, and you’ll play a big part in our ongoing success.

Shelter promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplace. We make employment decisions by matching business needs with skills and experience of candidates, irrespective of age, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. We also encourage applications from people, who have been homeless or have been at risk of homelessness. We are facing diverse problems, so need diverse people to tackle them.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

About the Role

As part of an innovative, collaborative team, you will help us take philanthropy fundraising to new heights. This role is designed to help us build relationships with HNWIs and support growth in six and seven-figure donations. You will manage a portfolio of high net worth individuals, cultivating and stewarding donors, while also identifying new prospects, developing the proposals that will inspire them to give and also feeding into our operational annual and long term plans to deliver a major donor strategy.

About you

A track record of successfully dealing with influential individuals to secure significant gifts/accounts is required. You’ll also need excellent communication and relationship-building skills with a confident approach to donor management and the ability to articulate a compelling case for support. What’s more, you have both the initiative and collaborative approach it takes to proactively identify opportunities and improve ways of working across the team and wider organisation.

Benefits

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave (pro rata), enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
