Attempted murder investigation continues in Scunthorpe

Humberside Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to an incident on Dale Street, Scunthorpe.

Investigators have been on the scene since this morning, focusing on a Vauxhall Astra parked on the street.

They have been seen examining the vehicle, which has a bullet hole in the rear driver-side door.

A nearby house has also been cordoned off, and a tent placed over the car.

The incident is thought to have occurred shortly before 11.43pm yesterday, Monday, October 19.

This morning, DCI Phil Gadd said:

“Officers were called at 11.43pm yesterday, Monday, October 19 by paramedic staff following reports that a man has been shot.

“Armed officers arrived on scene shortly afterwards and two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

“An investigation has been launched and police remain at the scene on Dale Street where a cordon is in place.

“Anyone with information about the incident should call 101 and quote log 713 19/10/20.”

In an update issued this afternoon, he continued:

“Thankfully, this kind of incident is extremely rare in the Humberside area.

“We believe that this was a targeted attack and that there is no risk to the wider public but I fully appreciate the impact it will have had on the local community and wider Scunthorpe area.

“You will see lots of our officers over the coming days, both as part of our ongoing investigation and to provide reassurance.

“If you have information that you think could assist our investigation, or you have any worries or concerns, please come and talk to us.”

Both men remain in police custody.

The victim, a 26-year-old man, is being treated in hospital, where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition.
