Council responds to Habrough expansion complaints
The Council have responded after existing residents have expressed a number of objections to North East Lincolnshire Council’s planned expansion of Habrough.
A detailed application for the large development has outlined plans for 118 new homes on a site located on Station Road.
But residents have raised concerns and objections to the plans, which could see the population increase by around 40%.
Among the reasons cited are a lack of local amenities, and the fact that the new properties would overlook existing homes.
Several have claimed that due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, their opportunity to be heard and consulted has been missed.
Now, North East Lincolnshire Council have issued a statement, responding to residents complaints, stating that the development was approved and in motion over two years before the pandemic began.
A spokesperson continued:
“The principle of developing 118 houses on this site was approved in July 2017, before the COVID-19 pandemic, with residents concerns being taken on board at the time.
“The site is also allocated within the Local Plan of 2018, which means it was formally designated for housing 2 years ago.
“The current application is a reserved matters application to agree the detail, not the principle, which had already been established by the outline consent.
“The development was publicised by various means including letters to households adjoining the site, a site notice and public notice. The Parish Council was also contacted, with an opportunity for feedback given.
“A large number of responses were received as a result of the publicity.
“The final designs for the site developed are based, in key areas, on the concerns raised with the comments of residents. We have listened, and we have worked with the developer to make the changes.”
An amended application has now been approved.
