Kevin accuses ‘Strictly’ winner of stealing his Grimsby gimmick!
Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton has accused the show’s reigning champion of trying to steal his ‘from Grimsby’ gimmick.
Former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher took to Instagram while filming from an exotic beachside location and jokingly told his followers it was Grimsby.
Professional ballroom dancer Kevin, who is from Waltham, then re-shared the post, saying: “Erm… @kelvin_fletcher mate???”
And jokingly added: “You trying to steal my gimmick,” before adding the hashtag: “#KelvinFromGrimsby.”
The entertainer, who left the show after seven years at the start of 2020, earned the nickname “Kevin from Grimsby” from the show’s former host Sir Bruce Forsyth and it helped to make him one of the most popular personalities on the programme.
However Kelvin, who won last year with Oti Mabuse, continued to insist he was topping up his tan in Grimsby – not often confused with the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, the location for detective drama Death in Paradise.
He said in a video: “People are asking where I am, I obviously tagged the location as Grimsby.”
The former soap star panned the camera around to show a tropical beach and sarcastically continued: “People are saying it’s not Grimsby, well I beg to differ this is Grimsby, take a look…”
Strictly Come Dancing recently revealed all of the 12 celebrity contestants for this year’s show.
The 2020 series will begin in October but will be shorter than usual due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Strictly stars will be staying in a hotel for two weeks ahead of pre-recording all the group dances.
