More drugs and weapons have been taken off the streets of Grimsby’s East Marsh as a police crackdown continues.

Yesterday (Wednesday) saw a number of warrants, arrests and engagement activities take place on the East Marsh, as part of Humberside Police‘s “month of intensification” taking place to combat criminal activity in that area.

Grimsby East Inspector Dave Stephenson said: “A warrant was executed on Sidney Way yesterday morning resulting in a 45-year-old man and 43-year-old man being arrested on suspicion of possession of intent to supply Class A drugs.

“Upon searching the property, we discovered a large quantity of suspected Class A drugs with an approximate value of £10,000. Approximately £1,500 in cash was also found, alongside numerous mobile phones, drug paraphernalia, bladed weapons and replica firearms.

“The property was all seized, taking dangerous weapons and drugs off the streets and helping to protect our community.

“The two remain in custody as our investigation continues.”

And in a separate incident a 35-year-old woman was arrested and has since been released under investigation on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs following a vehicle stop on Freeman Street.

While following reports of a road traffic collision and heated argument on Wellington Street, officers attended and one man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Alongside this enforcement action, the local team and partners spent time proactively patrolling hotspot areas, gathering information and engaging with the community.

Inspector Stephenson said: “It’s really important for our officers to do this engagement work and hear what it’s like to be a resident of the area, so that the issues that matter the most can be tackled.

“After identifying a number of vulnerabilities in the community, we have been able to link in with relevant partners and offer individualised checks on properties at risk of cuckooing and child criminal exploitation, providing advice and support where needed.”

He continued: “Our Roads Crime Team also offered a helping hand completing stop and search checks and gathering intelligence to assist with the rest of our action.

“We are determined in our goal to make the East Marsh a safer place to live for the community and I encourage anyone who has an issue to report to engage with us and we will look to act.”
