Suspected arson in Doncaster village

Firefighters were called out to deal with a suspected arson in a former pit village near Doncaster last night.

The attack is the second suspected arson in the Doncaster area within a fortnight.

The crew from Harworth Fire Station were sent out to the incident at around 9pm, after receiving an emergency call.

At the scene they found a car alight on Droversdale Road, Bircotes.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire fire service said the vehicle was well alight when they arrived.

He added that the crew used a hose to extinguish the fire, which they added was believed to have been started deliberately.

This comes after another incident yesterday where firefighters from Doncaster Fire Station rescued a man from a house fire in the area.

On Saturday, fire crews were sent to the scene on Ellis Crescent, Rossington, where they found a property alight.

Four officers entered the building wearing protective gear and breathing apparatus.

They were on the scene for around an hour and a half, and it was confirmed that one man had been rescued.

He is said to be alive, but is being treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Last week, there was also a suspected arson on a Doncaster boat known for having served in the Second World War.

Officers from South Yorkshire Police are still appealing for information and witnesses following the attack on the boat, which was in Sprotbrough Lock.
