Lincoln Cathedral to reopen for private prayer
Lincoln Cathedral is to reopen for private prayer from Monday 15 June, it has been confirmed.
But, communal acts of public worship are still not allowed. It is unclear when we can expect to see these return.
This follows an announcement by the Government, that places of worship will be permitted to open for individual prayer in line with social distancing guidelines.
Lincoln Castle has also partially reopened to visitors.
Lincoln Cathedral has now confirmed that it will be able to welcome people through its doors again on Monday.
It will be open weekly Tuesday to Saturday from 10am – 3pm, and Sunday 10:30-3pm.
The cathedral will be closed on Mondays, except for June 15.
The first hour of opening between 10-11am Tuesday to Saturday will be reserved for anyone who identifies as vulnerable.
The nave and retro-choir will also be open to visitors, but other spaces in the building including the Chapter House, chapels and cloister will remain closed.
The shop, refectory and toilets will also remain closed until further notice.
When it does reopen, it is expected that the refectory will initially operate on a takeaway only basis.
A one-way system will be in place to ensure that visitors are safely distanced from one another.
Hand sanitiser stations have been installed and there are limits on the number of people that may enter the building at any time.
