Horrid Henry brings homeschooling to life

Horrid Henry helps with Horrid Homework.

Summertown’s Novel Entertainment are creators of the four-time BAFTA-nominated TV program, Horrid Henry.  The program is one of the biggest children’s animated shows ever in the UK.

With COVID-19 keeping a lot of school children at home, Novel got to work and created a podcast series targeted at helping children aged 7 to 11 feel more excited about getting work done at home.

The ‘Horrid Homework’ podcast is presented by radio host Sean Thorpe, voice actor Lizzie Waterworth (and Henry himself).  It includes fun activities, projects, challenges and puzzles as well as a weekly newsletter for parents and carers.

The home-week will be rounded off with Fun Fri-yay, a compilation of bespoke videos, newly created songs and behind the scenes content which will be live-streamed on Henry’s YouTube channel.

Alongside the podcast, Novel are working on a number of different initiatives designed to reach out to a wider range of children who might otherwise not have access to online services and entertainment.  At the heart of this activity is a pledge to close the digital deficit.

“During these challenging times, we want to come together to create a virtual community not only for the extensive Horrid Henry fan base, but for children all around the world,” said Lucinda Whiteley, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Novel Entertainment.  Working with colleagues from the media industry and beyond, our commitment is to the creativity and kindness that such a community can generate.”

The Horrid Henry Unlocked podcast is produced by Great Lines and is available on all major platforms including Apple and Spotify.
