Man named and charged following attempted arson in Grimsby
The culprit of the attempted arson at an Esso petrol station on Albion Street, Grimsby, yesterday has now been named and charged.
A 30-year-old man is in Police custody and due to appear in Grimsby Magistrates Court today, following an incident at a petrol station on Albion Street, Grimsby early yesterday morning.
Officers for Humberside Police attended the petrol station at around 12.40am on 20 May, following reports of a man attempting to set a petrol pump alight.
Matthew Nurse of Pelham Road, Immingham has been charged with two counts of arson endangering life and threats to damage.
Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, police received reports of a man behaving erratically and aggressively outside the petrol station on Albion Road.
It is said that he then approached one of the petrol pumps, and attempted to set it alight before being stopped by onlookers.
Police arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect shortly after.
Now, a man named as Matthew Nurse is due to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court today, charged with two counts of arson endangering life and threats to damage.
Yesterday, a Humberside Police spokesperson said:
“A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted arson following an incident in Albion Street, Grimsby, this morning.
“We were called at 12.45am today following reports of a man behaving erratically on a petrol station forecourt.
“Nothing was set alight and no one was injured as a result of the incident.
“A man was arrested at the scene and remains in our custody, assisting us with our enquiries.
