By Motorists on A46 face detours of up to 43 extra miles
Motorists heading to and from Grimsby via the A46 face long detours, as a long stretch is due to close for repairs for three weeks.
The repairs are due to begin in a couple of weeks, causing major detours for Grimsby area traffic.
Lincolnshire County Council announced the work is due to start on May 26, forcing motorists to use the B1225 Caistor High Street.
The closure is expected to last at least three weeks.
Lorry drivers face a 43-mile detour due to a low railway bridge at Market Rasen, while a 20-mile detour has been planned for car drivers and light goods vehicles along the B1225 Caistor High Street to Ludford and on to the A631 to Market Rasen.
Councillor Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said:
“As part of these works, we’ll be resurfacing parts of the A46 in Usselby to replace road surface that is nearing the end of its serviceable life.
“We’ll be doing everything we can to limit disruption throughout the three-week project, including maintaining access for residents and emergency services.
“I want to thank everyone for bearing with us during these improvements. Not only will they help keep the area’s road network up and running, but they’ll also mean smoother and safer journeys for everyone traveling on the A46.”
The diversion for HGVs will be 43 miles from the A46 to Caistor By-Pass, B1225 to Burgh on Bain, A157 to Wragby, then on to the A158 to Lincoln By-Pass.
Works include resurfacing the Usselby bends.
Day-time works will start on the A46 Caistor Road, from the A1103 junction to the B1434 junction, to replace the worn out carriageway.
Stop and go signs with convoy traffic management will be in place while work is carried out.
