Armed man threatens to blow up Grimsby flat
An armed man threatening to blow up a flat near Freeman Street in a gas explosion has been arrested after armed response officers from Humberside Police surrounded a property in Grimsby.
The man in his 50s was causing a disturbance in Werneth Road, off Freeman Street at around 10.30am this morning.
There was a large police presence in the street with support from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service as the man was in a property with upstairs windows and there was concern for his welfare.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said:
“A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of public order offences after a report of a disturbance at a property on Werneth Road in Grimsby this morning.
“Reports were received around 10.30am stating a man was causing a disturbance within an address on Werneth Road. Our officers attended the incident promptly and a man was arrested at the scene shortly after 11am. He remains in custody at this time.”
The man was detained after officers forced entry into the property.
A number of weapons including knives were retrieved from the scene.
The road was blocked by police for around one hour.
