North East Lincolnshire Council have issued a statement thanking local businesses for their conduct during the coronavirus crisis.

The council said that many businesses in the area have gone the “extra mile to help out in the current pandemic.”

The last few weeks have seen many businesses in across the area look at their operations and see what can be done either to help the community out, step up or change production, or change their business model to keep things going.

Some have adapted the way they function, offering click and collect or contactless delivery services.

Many of those who are considered non-essential during this time have given their time or resources to assisting the charitable work of others. For example Allan McCartney at Great Coates Motors recently donated three vans to The Blue Lights Brigade, who are delivering care packages to Grimsby’s most vulnerable people.

E Factor Business, also made a donation, in order to keep the vans insured and operational, while Dan from Nextgen Engineering has also very kindly made a donation towards fuel for the vans.

Councillor John Fenty, Cabinet member for regeneration and investment, said:

“It’s in times of crisis that businesses and individuals step up and do what they can to help. We’re seeing a myriad of different businesses across our patch do what they can, and I’d like to issue a personal thank you on behalf of the council for this.

“I’ve heard lots of examples of businesses changing what they’re producing in order to help the NHS specifically. New alliances have been created to deliver 3d printed visors and safety equipment to the hospitals and social care homes. Some companies have changed from producing home furnishing to making scrubs for the NHS. And one of our local distilling companies even switched production to stop distilling alcohol for consumption, and creating hand sanitiser instead.

“Other companies have expanded production to include additional home delivery services. And there’s others that are helping to support people who are suddenly having to work from home – a local packaging company, for example, has switched from making boxes to designing, and selling, a cardboard desk strong enough to support a laptop and printer.

“”he adaptability of many of our local businesses is to be applauded.

“We have to remember, though, that there are a number of businesses who can’t diversify, and are struggling at this time. For those businesses, I’d encourage them to get in touch with E-Factor in the first instance, who can signpost to help and support that’s available.”
