Scunthorpe manufacturing company responds to demand for PPE supplies

A Scunthorpe-based manufacturing company has responded to the ever-growing demand for PPE supplies, in light of the national shortage.

Stylex Auto Products has responded to demand and is now supplying scrubs and gowns for key workers, with the support of volunteers from its workforce.

Alan Ross, Managing Director at Stylex Auto Products and chair of the North Lincolnshire Place Marketing Board, said:

“I am truly pleased to be able to offer Stylex’s cutting and sewing capability to the production of scrubs for the health authorities. Our initial production run going to Crafts for Causes, a volunteer initiative involving a co-ordinated group of home sewers.

“We are working on the supply of further textiles for both scrubs and gowns and plan to use our current customer downtime to supply more of the critical requirements for our heroic health services over the coming weeks.

“We have more recently received requests to source supplies, which has highlighted a huge demand in the local community. From now on we will be focussing on supplying to communities across North Lincolnshire and the wider Humber region.

“I am truly proud of the volunteering of our furloughed staff at this time of national need. Thank you all.”

This follows widespread criticism of the UK Government’s approach to the coronavirus crisis, and the failure to provide NHS staff and other key workers with adequate PPE.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has said that the challenge to acquire PPE has in part been because of a global supply shortage.

However, there have also been criticisms of the failure of the UK Government to join schemes organised by the EU, of which the UK remains a member until December 31st, which would have secured supplies for the NHS.

Organisations, individuals and charities across the nation have campaigned for better protection, and have organised their own campaigns, creating makeshift PPE for their local services.
