Appeal to identify body of woman found in River Welland

Lincolnshire Police are trying to identify the body of a woman found in the River Welland, and are appealing to the public for help.

The body was discovered close to houses on Eastgate, Deeping St James, near Peterborough.

Officers for Lincolnshire Police were called to the area at 7.30am on Sunday the 12th April by a local resident.

The woman was recovered from the water a short time later.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

The woman is thought to be in her late 70s or 80s.

She is around 5ft 4, of medium build, with white-grey hair. She was wearing a woollen coat over an orange top, headscarf, blue socks and sandals.

Lincolnshire Police are currently undertaking enquiries to identify the woman, establish the circumstances leading up to her death and to trace her family.

They are appealing to the public for help and to ask that anyone who recognises the description of the woman to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
