Online map links farmers and workers in ‘Feed the Nation’ initiative
A new online map has been launched by The Home Grown Land Army in order to connect farmers and workers to bring in the harvest as part of a new ‘Feed the Nation’ initiative.
Amid the current Covid-19 crisis, and generally as people move towards generalised sustainability, food availability and requirements are adapting.
Wholesalers are shifting their focus from restaurants to homes, providing fruit and veg boxes to the door as a means of keeping their businesses afloat. The demand is there due to people staying at home and a lack of availability for supermarket deliveries and stock in the shops.
The food supply chain may have altered dramatically, but the base need for food is unchanged.
The Home Grown Land Army initiative aims to help speed up the recruitment process, both feeding people nationwide and helping people in finding work in these complex times.
A spokesperson for the Home Grown Land Army said:
“We live in uncertain times.
Communities up and down the country are facing the risks arising from coronavirus, bringing with it concerns over food security and supply chain.
“We are currently connecting farms and workers to create a Land Army capable of feeding the nation.”
Many companies are working out how they can help their customer base and stay afloat during the pandemic. In response to this, The Home Grown Land Army have launched their Land Army / Feed the Nation Initiative, which links farmers and workers via an online map.
The aim is to make the workforce and employers easily accessible to each other, minimising disruption to production and, wherever possible, and keeping people in work.
The British Growers Association estimates that the UK needs 70,000 additional people this year in order to bring in the harvest.
