By An update on Phone ‘n’ Ride services
Recently we reported that North East Lincolnshire Council, together with ENGIE and Stagecoach East Midlands, had issued an update and suspended their Phone ‘n’ Ride service, in light of government advice to avoid all non-essential contact and travel.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said:
“These are unprecedented times and the council is having to make some difficult decisions.
Our message is for people not to worry and to follow the Government advice so we can beat this virus.”
North East Lincolnshire Council have said:
“Following Government guidance on Covid-19, our passengers are encouraged to stop all non-essential contact and travel.
This is particularly important for people over 70, people with underlying health conditions and pregnant women.
Further updates about the service will be made available as they happen.”
However, a similar organisation named Dial A Ride, is still operating.
Dial A Ride is charity run, and operates throughout Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
Although Phone ‘n’ Ride has been suspended, and that this was in accordance with government and council advice, Dial A Ride recognise that this has left some vulnerable people unable to access their essential supplies and medication.
It has therefore made the decision to remain active.
Coordinator Ken Pennock said:
“Over half of our fleet are still on the road, others have had to be declared SORN in order to reduce our insurance premiums. But, we still have a team of dedicated and healthy volunteer drivers available.”
Service users are advised to check the Phone ‘n’ Ride website for regular updates, but should also be aware of the services offered by Dial A Ride.
