Importing and exporting food during the coronavirus crisis

North East Lincolnshire Council and The Port Health Team have issued a statement regarding the import and export of food during the Coronavirus crisis.

As the Covid-19 pandemic spreads and the Government continues to oversee the national response, North East Lincolnshire Council have said that they will continue to support the local economy and communities.

The Port Health Team have said that they are implementing contingency plans to ensure that services continue for as long as is possible, facilitating food imports and exports, food safety and infectious disease control.

As part of their commitment to ensuring safe food supplies in the local area, North East Lincolnshire Council and the Port Health Team have taken the decision to reduce the number of external visitors to port offices until the crisis is resolved.

Together, their intention is to continue service provision and maintain the flow of goods through the port, supporting local economy and maintaining regulatory control.

Catch certificates accompanying third country consignment will be largely unaffected due to the ability for electronic submission and endorsement.

All vessels arriving from foreign ports are already requested to submit a Maritime Declaration of Health (MDH) in accordance with national guidance. All vessels are reminded of the legal requirement to notify authorities of any cases or suspected cases of infectious disease on board.

North East Lincolnshire Council will continue to monitor the national, regional and local situation, and amend services in line with advice from the government and Public Health England.
