Pedestrian killed in a car crash near Lincoln
Motorists faced delays this morning on a busy road in Lincolnshire after a pedestrian was killed in car crash near Lincoln.
The B1398 was closed as a result of a serious collision on Middle Street at Burton just North of Lincoln. The road was closed between Queen Elizabeth Road and Scampton End.
It comes as the A17 at Sutterton roundabout was blocked in both directions after a lorry jack knifed by the Shell garage.
Police were called to Middle Street in Burton after reports of a van colliding with a pedestrian at around 1.25am on Wednesday, March 4. At around 2am they issued the following update on their social media:
“We are currently on scene at a serious RTC on the B1398 Middle Street at Burton just North of Lincoln. The road will be closed for some time so please avoid the area.”
The driver of the van was uninjured and no arrests have been made as the incident is thought to be a genuine accident.
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said:
“We can confirm a 25-year-old woman has died following a collision in Middle Street, Burton.
We attended a report of a collision involving a van and a female pedestrian at around 1.25am on Wednesday, March 4.
The local woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was uninjured. No arrests.
The road remains closed and is expected to open later this morning.
If anyone has any information that can assist with our investigation they can call 101, quoting incident 9 of March 4.”
Burton Road has now reopened, but a 25-year-old woman has been pronounced dead at the scene.
