The number of schools affected by Coronavirus has risen
A local school has quarantined students after concerns over the threat of Coronavirus.
Caistor Yarborough Academy has issued a letter confirming that the 30 students and staff involved in the school’s recent ski trip to Santa Caterina will be expected to quarantine themselves. The resort in Northern Italy is not itself affected, but is close to some of the 11 towns which have now been put on lock-down following the Coronavirus outbreak.
At least four other nearby schools in Northern Lincolnshire have also recently returned from similar trips to the region.
These include King Edward VI in Louth, Winterton Community Academy, Melior Academy in Scunthorpe and South Axeholme Academy in Doncaster. King Edward VI school has also issued a statement. It is not yet known whether all of these local schools will be quarantining their students in the wake of the threat of Coronavirus.
Caistor Yarborough Academy Head Teacher has Mark Midgley confirmed that he would be advising a quarantine period of 14 days beginning this Wednesday. He has also suggested that those involved do not use public transport, and mentioned that some students are experiencing flu-like symptoms. This is in conjunction with advice given by the Foreign Office and the Department of Health.
Currently, the UK has only 13 confirmed cases of Coronavirus. The risk of contracting it outside of affected areas is therefore low. However, due the World Health Organization has advised that the global threat of a pandemic is high.
