Armed robber recognised when his mask slipped.
Michael Winchester 34 threatened a lone female shop assistant with a knife and then drew a hammer from his rucksack. He left the corner shop Lord Street News with £120 in cash and £1,000 worth of cigarettes, it is believed he then said to her I will cut you up.
Winchester was wearing a hooded jacket and a scarf over his face. He approached the lone assistant at around 5 pm on November 4th last year brandishing a knife and demanded money from the till. It is believed that when she placed the cash on the counter. He then produced a hammer from his rucksack and demanded she put cigarettes into the bag. his mask then slipped and the shop assistant recognised him.
The shop assistant loved her work but is understandably terrified that someone with a knife will come in. It is understood that she suffers nightmares and has had to seek counselling.
Michael Winchester pleaded guilty to the armed robbery and a further offence of a burglary on September 1st at a property on Lynton Parade, Grimsby. They were serious and cowardly offences in which he targeted lone women.
It is believed that when he is in the grip of a class A drugs he commits serious offences. Winchester was jailed for a total of 12 years at Grimsby Crown Court which includes an additional four years because of the high risk of danger to the public that he poses.
