The future of the Coachouse after disastrous expansion and £93,800 fine over VAT bill.

David Butler The Coachhouse Humberston restaurant boss failed to pay a £93,800 VAT bill. He blamed the disaster on expanding his business too fast and ended up half a million pounds in debt.

But he insists that the restaurant in Humberston remains secure. The Coach House should not have carried on trading without having the VAT security fee in place. David Butler got into financial difficulties after he took on nine other businesses in 2016 he vowed not to make the same mistakes and insisted the restaurant remained secure. He admitted at Grimsby Magistrates Court of supplying services described as D&D Retail trading as The Coach House without giving VAT security as required by a condition, between October 2018 and February 17th last year.

But Butker did not pay the security to ensure that ant payments of VAT that became due were paid as demanded. It is a criminal offence to carry on trading without providing security. David Butler was a partner in the business and admitted he had been neglectful. The business did not have the money available to pay the security so he made the decision to continue trading. Because it was the only way he could earn money to pay off several local businesses and has paid off £300,000 to those suppliers.

David Butler was fined £5,000 and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £170 victims surcharge.
