Over 150 people being investigated for flytipping over Christmas.

Mounds of waste were dumped at recycling points over Christmas in North East Lincolnshire. More than 150 people are being investigated.

North East Lincolnshire Council has a Zero tolerance approach to illegal dumping in the area. Recycling points across North East Lincolnshire were overwhelmed with waste on Boxing Day as people left their leftovers from Christmas piled up against the side of overflowing bins.

There are many signs at every location telling people they can not leave waste beside the bins if they are full as it is classed as flytipping. The bins were emptied soon afterward which prevented waste from being left to build up over several days.

CCTV monitors have been examined at each site and dumped waste has been sifted through to find addresses and names on items resulting in investigations being launched of more than 150 people. Some of the people currently being investigated may be prosecuted and others could receive a warning letter and some may be cleared.
