Man caused horrific crash after trying to smother his girlfriend.
A driver who fled after smothering and nearly killing his girlfriend. panicked and while being pursued by police crashed into a parked car which left the occupant with horrific injuries.
The crash victim was left in excruciating pain and needed emergency surgery. The driver had been drinking before speeding away. Nigel Marston 50 attacked his girlfriend in a Cleethorpes hotel room after an argument he repeatedly punched her in the face and covered her mouth and nose which meant she could not breathe for 20 seconds, she feared for her life. it is believed that luckily other people managed to get into the room. He then fled in a Seat car.
He failed to stop for police and drove on the wrong side of the road and overtook vehicles. Police put a stinger device down. The car hit a Vauxhall Astra at high speed in the Weelsby Road area and shunted it a considerable distance.
Nigel Marston admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop for police on October 26th, he also pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend causing actual bodily harm. Marston had previous convictions for assault.he is thought to have said he was deeply ashamed that he panicked and drove the way he did.
Marston was jailed for two years and was banned from driving for three years. he must pass an extended retest and he was also given a three-year restraining order.
