The stalwart of the Cleethorpes pub and bar scene has closed its doors.
The bar also housed a hotel above, but after countless poor reviews about lack of cleanliness and noise levels, guests became fewer and fewer.
Police have raided the premises and made separate arrests in connection with sexual offences and, just weeks ago, arrested a man in connection with Modern Slavery offences.
The windows have been boarded up and local business owners confirmed that last week vans were outside and being loaded up with fixtures and fittings.
One local business owner, who did not wish to named, commented: “We don’t know what has gone on. We know that trade has slowed down there recently but we didn’t expect to see the vans turn up and take everything away. It’s sad to see it boarded up.”
What’s next for the premises is unknown, although with it’s alcohol licences in place it is quite possible that the Market Square will see another bar.
What do you think it should become? Do we need another bar in Cleethorpes? Post your comments, or memories of ‘Bar Babs’ below.
