Man with a knife was tasered during a night of frightening violence.

During a night of frightening violence, police feared for their safety when Mark Stevens appeared with a knife. After a stabbing on Oxford Street, the previous night police were using emergency stop and search powers on the East Marsh.

The police came under attack and had had bottles hurled at them by a 20 strong gang. Mark Stevens came out of a house in Tunnard Street carrying a large chef’s knife. He claimed he would have handed the knife over but as he walked towards the police they tasered him fearing for their safety. He had claimed that he was being confronted by other people who were trying to get into the house and claimed he had rung police several times to say he had a knife.

Mark Stevens 28 admitted to possessing a knife in Weelsby Street on September 21st. It is believed he had 19 previous offences, including being jailed for affray for 16 months in 2014 and possessing an offensive weapon.

At Grimsby Crown Court he was given a six-month suspended prison sentence, 10 days rehabilitation, and alcohol treatment.
