Con Man e-fit published
Officers in Doncaster have released an e-fit of a man they are keen to identify, after an elderly couple were defrauded out of £10,000.
At the beginning of September, the victims – an elderly couple from the Adwick area of Doncaster – asked two men if they would fit a washing line at their home address, after seeing them working at another house.
The men are believed to have told the victims they were father and son, and claimed that they owned a company called D&M Improvements.
They completed some work at the victims’ home, which was paid for. The victims then asked if the men would complete some repairs to their roof and ceiling. At this point, the men reportedly asked the victims to provide regular payments of £250 and petrol money, so they could collect parts required to complete the work.
On Wednesday 4 September, the younger of the men attended the victims’ home address again asking for money. He is then reported to have taken the victims to a bank, where he asked them to withdraw £1500.
The work was not completed and the younger suspect made a further request for money. He drove the victims to the bank a second time, whereby they attempted to withdraw a substantial amount of money. The bank refused to release the money.
The victims were then taken to a jewellery business on Woodlands shop front. The younger man is believed to have made the elderly woman purchase jewellery on two separate occasions, worth a total of £8200.
The suspect is said to have told the victims he would send them a cheque for the money. The matter was reported to police after the men never returned to complete the work on the property, or send a cheque.
The couple have lost around £10,000.
Officers have been working with the victims to produce an e-fit of the younger suspect. Do you recognise him?
He is described as being around 27-years-old and the couple say he spoke with an Irish accent. The older man, alleged to be his father, is described as being white, around six foot tall, of chubby build, with grey hair and a grey beard. The older man is believed to be around 69-years-old.
Both men were described by the victim as being smart and well dressed. The older man drove a white van and the younger man drove a black 4×4 type vehicle.
We believe the individual pictured could have links to the Adwick or Woodlands area.
