Cleethorpes Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels match report

Cleethorpes moved up to second in the table with a convincing win against fellow play-off hopefuls Stocksbridge at a wet Linden.

After enjoying a string of early corners, Curtis Bateson scored the opener in the 24th minute. Cutting in from the right, the talented midfielder curled a superb left-footer into the top corner.

The second soon followed, Josh Batty volleying home from close range. Stocksbridge were struggling to fashion any attacking play and could count themselves fortunate to only be two behind at half-time.

More of the same followed after the break but Town could not kill the game off. Steels grabbed a lifeline with a little under a quarter-of-an-hour left, Scott Ruthven nodding home.

However, Clee deservedly had the final word. Captain Alex Flett’s free-kick from near the left corner flag flew straight into the net to secure the points.
