Police advise drivers to take their car keys to bed.
In one of two burglaries in Ripon Street overnight on Saturday sneak thieves snatched a set of car keys from a home and stole a BMW which was parked outside.
Now Humberside crime prevention has advised residents to take car keys to bed with them. Bank cards and a set of keys were stolen from the house during the burglary and the blue BMW was stolen shortly after.
The car was found on fire on Sunday morning at 3.50 am a short distance away.
Police have offered the following crime prevention advice following the burglary to try and prevent future victims.
: Make sure your doors and windows are closed and locked when you are not in the room. Nearly half of burglaries are down to someone leaving a door or window open.
: Make sure nothing of value is left on show to tempt thieves into breaking into your property.
: Take your keys up to bed with you at night. This prevents thieves from stealing your car.
: Think about fitting a burglar alarm and security lighting, both to your home and outbuildings. It may be expensive, but they are very effective deterrents and can bring down your insurance costs.
The PCSO for West Marsh also advised Please take extra care and do not leave car keys in the back of house doors or on show through windows.
Humberside Police are appealing for anyone with information about the burglaries or arson attack on the stolen car to call non-emergency number 101 quoting log 224 27/10/19.
