Public health officials have sounded the alarm over a number of outbreaks of Norovirus the nasty winter vomiting bug.

Approx 700 people have come down with the highly contagious virus in the past few weeks.

Last month a school in Lancashire was forced to close for a deep clean. When staff and pupils were taken ill in an outbreak.

Several hospitals have also had to close wards or cut visiting hours. And asked people who feel unwell to stay away.

The main symptoms are nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting, and possibly fever, headache, and sore arms. Symptoms usually appear suddenly. People are urged to stay at home until the symptoms have stopped for two days.

The best way to stop the virus spreading is by washing your hands frequently.
