Oxford’s Violent Crimes Are Rising!
Over the last year violent crimes have risen, with murders rising up 75 per cent.
So far, 4040 attacks have occurred and been reported in Oxford.
This number includes grievous bodily harm (GBH),
harassment and murder.
It is known that murder is one of the main factors behind the increase,
with four murders happening between October 2018 to September 2019,
compared to only one in the previous year.
Police report that 16,620 crimes have been recorded,
a terrifying 5 percent rise from last year.
In total, the overall crime rate is 108 per 1,000 people in the city,
way beyond the national average of 89.
Oxford City Council are worried about the recent statistics,
suggesting that more officers should be present in town
to prevent these crimes from happening.
In the other crime records,
it is established that 567 sexual offences have been reported, a rise of 13.2 percent,
183 robberies – a rise of 12 percent,
156 possession of weapons offences – a rise of 24.8 percent.
