Bad Parking Left Wheelchair User Stranded In Ditch

Bad Parking Left Wheelchair User Stranded In Ditch

Hope Harfield, a wheelchair user with cerebral palsy and arthritis, suffered a seizure after being

stranded in a ditch for half an hour due to a car parked on the public footpath.

A truck had blocked the path to her flat, when manoeuvring past the vehicle she didn’t notice the ditch,

resulting in Harfield falling out of her chair unable to move for half an hour until help arrived.

Bad parking practices are a commonplace on Country Park Way in Royal Wootton Bassett.

If Hope Harfield was unable to reach her phone to call her mother and then an ambulance,

she could have been stuck there for a much longer time and faced much harsher consequences.

Once Hope was taken to A&E, she had suffered a 15-minute-long seizure due to the head injury

she suffered after she fell, with medical staff intervening to help her breathe.

After this frightening incident, Hope has had enough with the terrible parking,

wanting visitors to respect those living there as many rely on the footpaths to get around safely,

especially wheelchair users.

If it continues Hope has stated she will get in contact with the highways department.

It is known that the cars owner didn’t apologise for what happened, having entered his vehicle and leaving without a word.
