Vets Warn Dog Owners About Fatal Illness

If you notice any of these symptoms from your pooch, immediately seek medical attention.

A veterinary practice has warned dog owners about a potentially fatal illness going around,

seasonal canine illness (SCI).

Seasonal Canine Illness is usually picked up by animals, mainly dogs, during Autumn,

in woodland areas.

Currently, two dogs a week are being affected by the illness, with symptoms including

vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy within 72 hours of walking in wooded areas.

Dogs have been affected in the following areas,

Twigmoor Woods, Sawby, Laughton Woods, Gainsborough, Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.

Although there isn’t any known preventative measures, here’s some precautions you can take to help your pet;

Ask your vet about tropical spray treatments for mites and apply immediately before a walk.

If you’re taking your dog on a long journey leading up to a woodland area, ensure they have lots of breaks for fresh air

and give them fresh water before, during and after the journey.

If you believe your pet has any of these symptoms please contact one of your Medivet branches to be seen as soon as possible.
