Can you help local parents on Rainforest ward get a good night’s sleep?

A new fundraising appeal aims to improve the experience of parents who have a poorly child being cared for at Grimsby hospital.

A £20,000 appeal has been launched by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust’s official charity, The Health Tree Foundation, to help fund suitable overnight chairs for parents staying overnight with their children on the ward.

Being admitted to hospital, away from their loved ones, can be a frightening experience for children and naturally there are occasions where parents will want to stay with them. Currently the ward only has access to a camp bed or standard chair for overnight stays.

Eighteen of the new multi-functional chairs are needed to help create a more pleasant sleeping environment for parents. By day, the chairs are a comfortable seat which can easily be transformed into a bed for the night.

Ward manager, Peter Louth, said: “Parents have enough to worry about when their child is ill without the added stress of a bad night’s sleep. Having new parent beds on the ward will improve their experience and help them get a good night’s sleep.”
