Ambitious £150 Mil Rebuild Plan Could Demolish Half Of Scunthorpe General Hospital

Wanting to create new fit-for-purpose buildings, the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust

are willing to knock down half of the current hospital.

The £150 million plan is to remodel the hospital and ‘modernise’ it as officials admit the old hospital structure is

designed for a different world and different health service.

Proposals have been made for the hospital to bid for £150 million worth government funding

to carry out the project over the coming years.

The trust currently faces an estate maintenance bill of £72 million to cover the

water pipe maintenance, fire safety and upkeep of hospital buildings.

However Dr. Peter reading stated admitting paying for maintenance would only “build up old buildings”

and not deliver a modern hospital site.

He admitted that realistically, they don’t think spending all that money putting old buildings back into a fit state would be a good use of public money.

The trust will now line up a bid for funding from the Department of Health and Social Care over the next five to 10 years for the work at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

It will also look to invest around £100 million to help modernise its sites in Grimsby and Goole.
