Older women are more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash in later life than men.

Older female drivers are almost three times as likely to crash and be involved in a traffic accident. After a lifetime of being passengers to their husbands. An AA study found that for every billion miles travelled by women over the age of 70. 173 of them are seriously injured or killed in a crash. But the number of male drivers of the same age only 63 of them will be seriously injured or killed in a crash.

It is believed that the figures are explained because men are most likely to be the driver in a marriage as a couple gets older. Which means women gain less driving experience over their lifetime.

Also, women have a greater life expectancy which means they are more likely to be driving on their own much later in life.

A third of female drivers give up their licence at the age of 70 compared with only a tenth of male drivers.

But in drivers aged 17-20, the reverse is true. Male drivers in this age bracket are three times more likely to be involved in a crash than women of the same age.

So if your a mature woman kick your husband out of the driver’s seat and you drive.
