Internationally-renowned singer adds finishing touch to Grimsby care home’s new sensory garden
HC-One’s Clarendon Hall care home in Grimsby was delighted to welcome internationally-renowned singer Michael Dore as the home unveiled its brand new sensory garden.
The new garden was part of an initiative at Clarendon Hall to enhance wellbeing of the residents living in the home. Colleagues raised a fantastic £500 for the project, with kind donations from staff members, relatives and business in the local community.
Colleagues at Clarendon Hall helped to transform the garden, as well as the family of a former resident, who sadly recently passed away. Keen gardeners living at the home were also keen to lend a hand, with many helping to plant flowers and herbs.
The completed garden area features a fairy garden, wishing well, sensory garden and a herb garden, with the area featuring lots of colourful plants and ornaments. The sensory element in particular is an exciting new addition to Clarendon Hall, as it is a recognised method for combatting effects of declining cognitive ability in older people.
To give the garden an extra special touch, residents each painted a stone to place around the wishing well to represent how everyone at Clarendon Hall unites to create one family.
Global performer Michael Dore, who has sung on well-known film soundtracks including Skyfall, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, visited Clarendon Hall as a friend of the home and added his hand-painted stone to the garden.
Michael was delighted to enjoy the grand launch of the new sensory garden, which included a performance from local ukulele band, The Nukuleles, a raffle and an afternoon tea featuring a sensory garden-themed cake.
Nicola Walker, Home Manager at Clarendon Hall, said: “At HC-One, kindness is at the heart of everything we do and our new sensory garden is a prime example of our efforts to enhance resident wellbeing at our home.
“Our Residents love the new garden area, which has provided a new space in which they can socialise with their loved ones. The launch was made even more special by Michael attending, who has established a fantastic relationship with residents and colleagues at Clarendon Hall.”
Michael said: “The team has done a fantastic job with the garden, it looks wonderful and everyone who visits Clarendon will be very impressed. It is such a lovely addition for the residents to enjoy some peace. I hope it also brings them joy, stimulation, tranquility and happiness.”
Clarendon Hall is located on Church Avenue in Humberston, Grimsby and provides residential and nursing care to older people and younger adults in the local community.
