Birkdale Manufacturing has acquired a new 42,000 sq ft warehouse in Scunthorpe as a result of an investment grant.
Birkdale is a major UK manufacturer of garage doors, roller shutters, composite doors, awnings, pergolas and window blinds. They received a £400,000 ‘Growing the Humber Business Investment Grant’ from North Lincolnshire Council to ensure the expansion could go ahead.
The company worked in partnership with the council to secure funding from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership, and has now entered into a lease-purchase agreement to move sites on the Queensway Industrial Estate. The new premises have a purpose-built warehouse and distribution facility along with internal office and staff facilities.
Sitting in a highly-prominent location which fronts Brigg Road, the premises benefits from being close to other notable occupiers such as Howden Joinery, Lebus Furniture, TSC Foods, and Harlequin.
Birkdale has invest heavily in new machinery in recent years, according to owner Simon Sturman. This new machinery means that they are the only UK manufacturer of garage doors that do not need to import panels from mainland Europe. Given the current uncertainty with Brexit, this can only be a good thing.
The new machinery allowed them to increase capacity to cope with extra demand. This resulted in lack of space and other workspace issues. So the grant, added to their own investment, has helped them gain the required larger floor space.
