MPs say that drivers should be banned from parking on pavements.

MPs have recommended helping communities to stop drivers parking on the pavements. At the moment it is legal to park cars and vans on the pavement across the country except in London.

But now the Commons transport committee has advised that there should now be an outright ban across England.

The chairman of the committee said that motorists may sometimes feel that they have no choice but to park on the pavement. Many of them do so in a considerate way. But the evidence in the inquiry revealed the impact on people with visual and mobility impairments and people with children. In London parking on the pavement has been an offence since 1974 and it is an offence which attracts a £70 fine.
