By Council buildings to receive a fresh lick of paint
Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre and 3a Town Hall Square will soon be receiving a full external repaint. This will mean some barriers will be placed on the pavements and the heritage centre will require some scaffolding.
The first of the works to start is the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, which is expected to begin early September. Contractors will then move onto 3a Town Hall Square in October.
Councillor John Fenty, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “We think it’s important to raise pride in the area and as part of that we need to ensure that council buildings are maintained as we would like to see all buildings in the borough. “The Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre paintwork on the water side is very faded and in need of some TLC.
“There is no plan to change the colour scheme as these are heritage buildings but it will bring them back to a clean, fresh look.”
Cllr Fenty added: “In terms of our wider aspirations for buildings across the borough, the council will be looking to use powers at its disposal to work with property owners where required to address rundown properties.
“This work will be targeted on worst affected areas to begin with, such as Cleethorpe Road and the last block of buildings on Freeman Street and Pasture Street.
“While such intervention will take some time before achieving the desired impact, we must start somewhere. ‘’
Neither building will be closed during the work and any access limitations will be dealt with as required.
