Cleethorpes Cricket Club News

Cleethorpes Cricket Club play their final home game in the 4 Probate & Wills ECB Yorkshire South Premier League on Saturday. Their opponents, Elsecar, will be making their first ever visit to Chichester Road after gaining promotion last season.

The Rotherham area side have had a successful first season at this level and sit 8th in the league table, a position of safety. However their form over the last fortnight has shown a dip and they travel to the East Coast on the back of successive defeats.
Mukammad Saeed Anwar has had a great first season with the Elsecar Club. The Pakistan player has scored 783 runs and taken 36 league wickets. He has been well supported in the batting department by Tanzeel Ali with 433 runs, Ian Swallow 392, and the Club Captain Paul Cummins who has made 340. Their attacking options are also varied with Cummins, Muhammed Ilyas and Saqib Hussain all taking more than 20 wickets this season.

In the reverse fixture, when Cleethorpes travelled to Elsecar, the home side plundered 218 from the Meggies attack for the loss of just 4 wickets with Anwar smashing 125 and Ali a rapid 50. Rain then caused the game to be abandoned with 4 points going to each side.

Cleethorpes, already without the injured Jordan Cook and the departed Basheeru Walters, will also be without their Captain, James Osmond, who has failed to recover from an injury which caused him to miss last weeks game at Sheffield.

Desperate for points, in an effort to maintain their position in the league, the Meggies bring in Jack Wilson for his first appearance and recall Harry Costello to a side which has not won at Chichester Road since the end of May.
