Mini Olympics Fun Days with added health benefits

NEW to Lincs Inspire’s summer holiday programme is Mini Olympics, offering children five years and older the opportunity to take part in all their sports day favourites, whilst improving fitness and wellbeing.

The fun days at King George V Stadium, Grimsby, will include a mix of individual and team games. There will be a strong focus on athletics, with sprinting, relay, jumping, shot putt, javelin and discus all featuring. Cricket, rounders, tug of war, dodgeball and handball will make up the rest of the day.

Ben Frary, Senior Sports Development Officer, Lincs Inspire said: “We are really looking forward to hosting this new event, providing the opportunity to introduce a wide range of sports and athletics games to children of all ages.

“The sessions will be great fun, helping children to build their confidence and social skills. We are hoping that by capturing the interest of all taking part we can encourage them to take up new hobbies that will benefit their health in the long term.”

Michael Jackson, Sports Development Coach, Lincs Inspire added: “The Mini Olympics are a great opportunity for children to learn and take part in a variety of games that they may not be familiar with. Team games will help to teach and promote the values of working together towards a common goal, whilst individual games will encourage a healthy level of individual competition. We look forward to seeing you on the track!”

Children will only compete with others of similar age to themselves and all activities will be fully supervised by Lincs Inspire coaches, who work across a number of schools in North East Lincolnshire, delivering PE lessons, Bikeability and extracurricular activities.

The Mini Olympics will take place 10am to 3pm on Monday, August 5 and August 19 and Tuesday, August 6 and August 20.  The fun days form part of an action-packed summer holiday schedule taking place across Lincs Inspire venues. Full listings and how to book can be found at lincsinspire.com.
