Cleethorpes Cricket Club meeting a continuous list of title contenders during the month of June

The fixture list has thrown up a series of games which finds Cleethorpes Cricket Club meeting a continuous list of title contenders during the month of June.

After becoming the first club to lower the colours of league leaders Doncaster Town the Meggies lost out to high riding Barnsley Woolley Miners last Saturday. On Saturday Sheffield Collegiate, who are placed third in the 4 Probate & Wills ECB Yorkshire South Premier League, visit Chichester Road.

This fixture will be a “double pointer” for 4th placed Cleethorpes who are 10 points adrift of their Sheffield rivals.

With teenager Harry Costello unavailable Cleethorpes are pleased to welcome Jordan Cook back into the fold. Cook has missed the last two games due to his commitments with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, and his return will boost the spinning options available to the Meggies Captain, James Osmond.

In previous season’s Collegiate have included Billy Root, the brother of England captain Joe Root, but he has now joined Glamorgan and will only play for the Sheffield side when his county commitments allow. Cleethorpes hope that it is not this week!
Another class act Azeem Rafiq, the former Yorkshire player, has left the club and moved into the Bradford League. However two prominent players, with County experience, have been signed as replacements.

Former Worcestershire player Shaaiq Choudhury, a top order batsman and slow left arm bowler, has joined after playing in the North Staffordshire & South Cheshire League last season.  Batsman Sam Hunt who has played for bothy Derbyshire and Durham seconds has also joined along with former Suffolk batsman/wicket keeper Sam Webb-Snowling.

For the past three season’s Australian Tom Rowley has been the overseas player for Collegiate. He has not returned this year and is replaced by seam bowling all-rounder Harry McNeilly who hails from the same club as Rowley – Toombul in Queensland.
