Plans for a new war on junk food.
Plans are being put forward for sweets, crisps, and fizzy drinks be sold in cigarette style plain packaging. Cadbury, Walkers crisps, Coco-cola, and major brands would have to abandon their vibrant designs. In an effort to combat the obesity crisis.
To put off consumers they would have to use a drab design. Which would be like the greeny brown like on cigarette packs which are chosen for its ugliness.
Sally Davies England’s Chief medical officer has backed the plans.
The proposals from the Institute for Public Policy Research also include.
Extending the sugar tax on soft drinks to sweets, cakes, and milkshakes.
A ban on day time TV adverts for junk food, sweets, soft drinks, and processed food.
Free fruit for pupils and a ban on fast food outlets within 160 metres of school gates.
Supermarkets to be ordered to provide cookery lessons.
Raising the legal age for buying cigarettes from 18-21.
Health campaigners also want cartoon characters to be banned from packs of food which are aimed at children.
