Angry mum sends Theresa May £60 fine as child’s school is closed due to elections.
An angry mum decided to send the Prime Minister a fine for her daughter’s unauthorised absence from school. The mum from Stoke-On Trent was furious when her daughter’s school turned children away from the school for a day so that it could be used as a polling station for the local elections. It also happened again this week as the European elections took place.
She wrote Dear Theresa May, I am writing regarding the unauthorised absence for my daughter during term time to use her school as a polling station. It is my policy not to authorise any absence from school unless it is in exceptional circumstance. The use of the school for political purposes does not meet the criteria of exceptional circumstances. I am therefore fining you and your establishment £60 per MP per child if paid within 21 days. This will rise to £120 if not paid between 21-28 days.
She explained that her daughter has special needs and for her to miss a day at school has a really negative impact.
She has not received anything back except an automatic thank you for your email.
